Things people ask us
Questions and answers
How much does composite decking cost?
From around £150 per square metre supplied and fitted. Height, ground, access and the boards you pick all make a difference. Guide prices only, not a quote or offer.
How long does composite decking last?
Good boards on a well-built frame last many years, and the makers usually back them with long warranties as long as they're fitted to their guide.
Is it slippery when it rains?
The grooved and embossed surfaces grip well. Keep it clear of wet leaves and moss in winter, like any outdoor surface.
How do I clean it?
Sweep it and wash it with warm soapy water a couple of times a year. No oiling or staining.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not for a deck no more than 30cm off the ground that, with other extensions and outbuildings, covers no more than half the garden. Raised decks, flats and listed buildings are different. We'll mention it at the survey if it applies.
Can you build on clay?
Yes. Much of the North East is clay. We use proper footings, keep the frame clear of the ground and plan for drainage.
Do you take the old decking away?
Yes, if you want us to. It goes on your quote.
